After watching, it might be fun to walk around the neighborhood and visit Sengakuji. If you go, there is a beautiful restaurant next to the temple called Monya (https://www.monya.org/), which is expensive but a great experience.
The TV series, though based on the novel, takes considerable liberties with it, painting a significantly darker picture. (I say that only to state a fact, not to suggest criticism.) The casting is superb, and the photography very much captures the mood...Those who enjoy the miniseries should also read the novel, Shinjo-san being a fine writer, though, as the humble translator, I readily admit that I'm biased...
